Annual Meeting of implementation of the Law on Road Traffic of January and February of 2018

The Road Safety Accreditation Review Meeting for January and February 2018 of National Road Safety Committee

On 27 February 2018, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport and also the Permanent Vice Chairman of National Road Safety Committee led the Road Safety Accreditation Review Meeting for January and February 2018, with the members of the committee, the subcommittee and Secretary General and Secretariat of the Committee.

 

The meeting discussed draft report of the Road Safety accreditation review for January and February 2018, compiled by the committee. The report focuses on key issues related to standardization, dissemination and education on law and specialized skills, law enforcement outcomes, road accidents situations, public reactions, issues and challenges, plans and directions for continuing work.

 

According to the report, the Senior Minister noted that in January and February 2018, the accident occurred 529 cases, causing 168 deaths and 744 injuries, while the average of 5.6 deaths per day and 13.5 injuries compared to January and February 2017, decreased 81 accidents equivalent to 13%.

 

H.E. Senior Minister Sun Chanthol advised the subordinate officials to double check the procedures for issuing a driving license, which is the cause of traffic accidents. At the same time, the Senior Minister also asked relevant authorities to inspect the road transport vehicles, tighten inspection of certificates, technical checkups, vehicles, driving licenses and vehicle identification to ensure safety as well as to prevent traffic accidents of citizens.

 

At the same time, H.E. Senior Minister also advised the departments of public works and transport in all provinces to carry out the procedures of blocking the operation of illegal garages, as well as the source of excessive overload of vehicles, causing damage to roads, bridges and traffic accidents.

 

H.E. Senior Minister Sun Chanthol urged the drafting of regulations that required heavy trucks to have safety reflective stickers to protect drivers’ life at night from accidents that may eventually occur.

 

Finally, the Senior Minister thanked and appreciated the members of National Road Safety Committee, as well as all inspectors of all kinds of technical faulty vehicles, who have successfully exerted their efforts and encouraged the team to continue their work for Cambodia will without inaccurate technical processes and excessive overload of vehicles.
