12th World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey ProvinceH.E. Senior Minister Sun Chanthol commemorated travelers“Not a happy day would become a sorrowful day”. H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport and the representative of Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Road Safety Committee, presided over 12th World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on 31 October 2017 in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province.This event was attended by H.E. Governor of Banteay Meanchey province, senior officials of Ministry of Public Works and Transport, members of Banteay Meanchey Provincial Road Safety Subcommittee, government officials, armed forces, students and citizens of Banteay Meanchey province with a total number of 1,000. This event is organized by the General Secretariat of National Road Safety Committee to share the sorrow for families and victims of traffic accidents to alert all citizens to understand the grief impact of traffic accidents caused by driving motorcycle without wearing helmets, driving over speed, overtaking in hazardous condition, carrying over the limited weight or the bulky goods and alcoholic driving.

Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and the Vice Chairman of National Road Safety Committee has led the helmet campaign held at the Ganesha garden which is near the Council of Ministers on 30th October 2017, in order to restrict the traffic law enforcement, with including the representatives of Phnom Penh administration, members of National Road Safety Committee and senior officials of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. The campaign is being conducted across 25 capitals and provinces, with traffic police have blocked motorcyclists who do not wear helmets and distributed helmets to them to highlight the importance of wearing helmets. When the helmets were handed over, the traffic police required them to print their thumbprint before receiving the helmets and specified the name of the recipients to prevent a double helmet.At the same time, H.E. Senior Minister Sun Chanthol has educated the motorcyclists who received fine receipts about road safety, risks of not wearing a helmet, asking about traffic laws. If he/she answers correctly, he/she receives a helmet, and if his/her answer is wrong, he would not get a helmet.
